Old North Christian Service
Our three-fold mission:
- community support
- UCC Mission and Relief
- partnering with our international friends
In our local community Old North supports the Salem Mission and the Marblehead Food Bank and provides temporary family housing through our Reilly II Housing program. Our support for community families includes the Marblehead Counseling Center, Making Ends Meet, and the Walk for HAWC (which now stands for Healing Abuse, Working for Change).
Our support to the UCC Wider Mission includes One Great Hour of Sharing and Neighbors in Need. Old North responds with emergency disaster funds in cases such as Hurricane Katrina and the Asian tsunami.
In our own wider mission Old North supports the Heifer International Relief Fund and has formed direct connections with institutions such as Rwanda’s Byimana Science School in the form of scholarships. The Pholela (South Africa) Partnership is an integral part of Old North life giving our members and friends the opportunity to travel to and to support the people in one of the world’s most HIV-stricken populations.
Christian Service provide Old North members many different opportunities to give of their time and talent. Our members and Youth participate in North Shore Habitat for Humanity and in the Community of Friends’ back-to-school program. Old North has a Caring Ministry Team which provides transportation and meals in times of emergency needs. The Prayer Shawl Team knits shawls with love and prayers for those who are in need and for the newly baptized. The Deacons’ Fund helps people with emergency funds for necessity such as utility bills or prescriptions.
Old North Church, an Open and Affirming Church, welcomes all to participate in Christian Service.
