Scripture provides the mandate for members of Christ's church to care for one another and the wider community. We take this dimension of our call seriously. Whether the need is brief or on-going, providing pastoral care is a primary concern of Old Noth's clergy and laity alike. Our ordained clergy minister to people in a variety of circumstances, offering baptisms, weddings, grief counseling, funerals, crisis intervention and spiritual support. Clergy are pleased to visit church members in area hospitals, nursing homes and hospice centers. They also call on members and friends at home or make themselves available in the church office by appointment. Additionally, care and support may be facilitated by the clergy through groups gathered around a specific theme, i.e. parenting or the recent loss of a loved one.
The laity of Old North Church (ONC) is also involved in pastoral care through our Caring Ministry program, a freestanding ministry involving a number of volunteers that provide everything from meals to friendly visits to occasional respite care and transportation to those in need. Members of the congregation are encouraged both to provide and receive the care this program enables. Contact can be made through the church office.
